Just as we would make love
Over text, we started having
arguments over the phone.
Forgetting the warmth of each
Other’s bodies, we only felt
The crudeness of our words.
A snake lurked quietly in our minds
Whispering venom, spreading poison
But a parrot recalled our own
Whisperings, as we lay awake
smiling, entangled, seeking.
We were to find each other again
But now was not the time.
